The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We build connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries through arts and culture, education and the English language. Last year we reached over 80 million people directly and 791 million people overall including online, broadcasts and publications. Founded in 1934 we are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body. We receive a 15 per cent core funding grant from the UK government.
Department for International Trade
The Department for International Trade (DIT) helps businesses export, drives inward and outward investment, negotiates market access and trade deals, and champions free trade.
We are an international economic department, responsible for:
- supporting and encouraging UK businesses to drive sustainable international growth
- ensuring the UK remains a leading destination for international investment and maintains its number one position for international investment stock in Europe
- opening markets, building a trade framework with new and existing partners which is free and fair
- using trade and investment to underpin the government’s agenda for a Global Britain and its ambitions for prosperity, stability and security worldwide.
Chengdu Municipal Foreign Affairs Office has initiated and presented the brand activity “Chengdu Europe Culture Season” since 2017. With the support of our European partners, it has been successfully held three times with over 30 high-quality diversified cultural activities such as art exhibitions, concerts, film salons with the participation of various international artists. All activities are free to the public, triggering social interaction and constructing a beneficial platform for promoting art exchanges and cultural dialogues between Chengdu and Europe.
VisitBritain is the strategic body for inbound tourism, ensuring that international tourism continues to deliver economic growth and jobs across the nations and regions of Britain.
Our strength is that we understand international customers and markets. VisitBritain’s international network of offices, covering 22 markets, is a resource supporting the industry and destinations to grow the value of tourism exports. We are a founding partner of the GREAT campaign, working alongside organisations such as the FCO, UKTI and The British Council.
VisitScotland is the National Tourist Board for Scotland. We work closely with private businesses, public agencies and local authorities to ensure that our visitors experience the very best of Scotland and that the country makes the most of its outstanding tourism assets and realises its potential.
To do this we market Scotland globally to attract visitors. We provide information and inspiration to visitors and potential visitors so they get the best out of a visit to Scotland and we provide quality assurance to visitors and quality advice to our industry partners to help the industry meet – and strive to exceed – visitors’ expectations.
Chinese Visual Festival
Chinese Visual Festival (CVF) has been bringing the very best in Chinese language cinema to the UK for over ten years, including fiction, documentaries and experimentia from around the Chinese language speaking world. Held annually and with events throughout the year, the festival works with the British Film Institute, King’s College London and other partners, bringing guest filmmakers and artists to the UK and featuring Q&As, discussions, workshops and more.
