A Chinese couple argue during a car journey, though all is not as it seems, and the line between filmmaking and real life soon blurs.
Country: Hong Kong | China
Director: Wang Xiaozhen
Starring: Wang Xiaozhen, Zhou Qing, Wang Dixuan, Fan Bingrui
Running time: 114 mins
Language: In Mandarin with EST
Film type: Fiction
Wang Xiaozhen’s multiple award-winning and highly original feature was the big winner at FIRST International Film Festival in China, an initially simple seeming tale of domestic conflict following a young couple and their baby as they leave the city to pay a visit to their sick grandfather in the countryside. With Wang himself playing the husband, the drama plays out in the increasingly suffocating atmosphere of the car, and the sharply-scripted and possibly autobiographical film soon takes a turn for the unexpected, interweaving real life and filmmaking.

Around that Winter (2013)
“The movie LOVE POEM is to let me face myself honestly. Up till now, I made movies more to pursue fame and wealth. In this ‘film’ and ‘the art’ game, I exhausted myself in order to be better than others. All of which I’ve done are for ‘others’. I hope to get rid of these, if I can. I hope to stay away from that self by making more movies.”
