Every year Chinese Visual Festival assembles a team of top industry experts, academics and filmmakers to select the very best films from the programme. This year the CVF Jury includes Shanshan Chen, Kevin Ma and Gary Bettinson.
About Shanshan Chen
Shanshan Chen is a multimedia producer and filmmaker with the Thomson Reuters Foundation based in London. Her short documentaries explore topics such as refugees and migrants, women’s rights, LGBT rights and China-related themes, and have been featured on BBC (US), TIME (US), The Atlantic (US), Aeon (US), and KCET (US).
About Kevin Ma
Kevin Ma is a writer and journalist based in Hong Kong. He is the entertainment editor of Cathay Pacific Airway’s Discovery Magazine, a professional translator who has collaborated with top film companies in the region and the founder of Asian film news site Asia In Cinema. Kevin was formerly the Greater China correspondent for film trade publication Film Business Asia, reporting on happenings in the Asian film industry, and an English editor for online retailer YesAsia.com. He has also contributed to publications by the Udine Far East Film Festival, the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival and the Hong Kong Film Archive.
About Gary Bettinson
Gary Bettinson is Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at Lancaster University, UK. He is author of The Sensuous Cinema of Wong Kar-wai (Hong Kong University Press, 2015) and chief editor of the Asian Cinema journal.
